Reflections on becoming

Letter no. 19

in

Dear reader from the future,

The pandemic has dragged on far too long than we anticipated it would be.

How long should we need to endure before we’d finally get out of this situation mask-free?

Sometimes, I long about inhaling the outdoor breeze like a normal person would, without the face masks constantly wrapped around our faces.

Can you hear the relief the moment one removes a face mask after wearing it for far too long? It’s even challenging to breathe sometimes, especially when you’re out for the morning rush.

There’s this one time I went out to an island (with my face mask on, of course) that how I wished to have it removed while the sea breeze wafted against my skin. It felt like I only drew the feeling of the salty wind from memory.

By the time you’ve read this, I hope your world is entirely different than where I am today. But if you ever needed a face mask, I hope you didn’t have issues with logistics anymore, like we did, especially during the first few months of the pandemic.

Your letter writer from the past,
Jessa
