Job interviews: it’s your turn to ask questions

in

How many job interviews did you go through up to this moment?

Can you still remember the anticipation that built up right after receiving that confirmation email telling you about your scheduled interview?

And to prepare for your interview, you’ve practiced how to respond to typical questions like ‘Can you tell us about yourself?’ and ‘Why are you applying for this position?’

But have you ever thought about being the person asking questions to your prospective employer?

Like all relationships, getting to know each other shouldn’t be one-sided. If your main goal is to get hired, knowing the company you want to spend your years with is as important as getting the job.

From Fast Company, here are the 10 tough questions you must ask in your next job interview:

  1. Why is this position available?
  2. What makes it a great day and what makes it a challenging day at work?
  3. When was the last time you promoted someone within your team, and why?
  4. What are some of the challenges you expect the person in this position to face?
  5. How are feedback and criticism handled within the team?
  6. What is the main reason employees stay at or leave this company?
  7. Do you have any employee resource groups (ERG) and how might they support DEI work?
  8. What’s the company’s approach to supporting work-life balance, and what are some recent initiatives you’ve put in place related to the pandemic?
  9. How does the company determine salary levels or ranges for remote workers and is it all different for in-office workers or hybrid workers?
  10. Do you have any hesitancy in hiring me?

Are they easy questions to ask?

I don’t think so.

However, during your interview, asking some of them, if not all, help you see what kind of workplace you are getting yourself into.
