Everyday Stories, Lived

Letter no. 15

in

Dear reader from the future,

How do you build your life around material possession these days? Does the market still lure you into endless consumerism or help you live your life with less?

Systems really do shape how we live our lives, isn’t it?

It’s a curious thing that after not seeing my friends for almost a year (points fingers to the pandemic), I noticed how everyone lost weight!

And here are the things I learned so far:

  1. Interacting with colleagues and friends encourage eating out (because where else could we gather after work?)
  2. Limiting the gathering signals people to eat from what they cook at home instead.

I can remember when, after dinner, we still go out for some milk tea to extend the evening.

There are so many things we don’t do anymore. And as much as we want to go back to what we used to do, there’s only moving forward. And perhaps, doing things in a new way.

I hope that as you read this, it’s all over.

Because we’re all eager to move forward here. All of us from the present.

Your letter writer from the past,
Jessa
