Reflections on becoming

The future of poultry farming and the next pandemic

in

Yes, we’re all asking when will all this end. And it’s even overwhelming to think of another pandemic, should it happen.

But since history rhymes, it’s good to pay attention to the signals and current trends so that the future won’t catch us off guard.

And if you’re a fan of eating chicken, then it’s also helpful to think about where they’re from and begin thinking about poultry farms.

Why?

From Factory farms of disease: how industrial chicken production is breeding the next pandemic:

“In evolutionary terms, rearing poultry, cattle and pigs in high-intensity, crowded, confined, entirely unnatural conditions may be the most profound alteration of the human-animal relationship in 10,000 years,” he (Michael Greger) says

“We are seeing an unprecedented explosion in outbreaks of new bird flu viruses, which historically have presented the greatest pandemic risk and certainly have the potential to be worse than Covid.”

Well, I don’t mean that we stop eating chicken, okay?

But knowing where the next pandemic can begin might help us mitigate causes before they actually become a worldwide phenomenon.
