The truth about plastic recycling

From my previous post about single-use plastics, I talked about how the future of plastic wastes lies not only in our consumption habits but also in the big companies that make them.

What about “plastic recycling”?

From The Big Problem With Plastic:

“It’s far less expensive to manufacture most types of plastic from scratch than it is to recycle old plastic into something new.”

So what now?

Like I have said earlier, the companies who make plastics have a relevant role to play.

Here are some solutions from The Big Problem With Plastic:

  1. Plastic companies are actively looking into better recycling methods and how to design plastics to be more easily recyclable because they know this is such an important consumer issue.
  2. …extended producer responsibility (EPR), which would require plastic makers and sellers to be responsible in some way for the life cycle of their products, including cleanup after they are sold.
