Reflections on becoming

The songs you listen to

in

Growing up, I realized the importance of choosing what kind of songs you listen to.

Unconsciously, they affect how you see things, respond to circumstances, and put life into perspective.

Even if some will say that it doesn’t matter what kind of songs you allow yourself to be immersed in, the impression of such songs lingers.

They remain, most especially in your thoughts that are often lurking deep in the subconscious.

If that’s the case, then as a follower of Jesus, what kind of music should you allow yourself to be constantly exposed to?

Yes, there are environments we don’t have control over with. But, in moments where you have the autonomy to sift through what comes and goes, then it implies that you should choose the songs that remind you of who God is and what God does.

My mouth is filled with Your praise
And with Your glory all day long.
Psalm 71:8 AMP

I’ve heard enough excuses from people I know, but the proper response would be: garbage in, garbage out.

If you fill yourself with the goodness of God, then it comes naturally for you to speak of how wonderful our good God is. Because you cannot give what you do not have. You cannot pour out what you’re not filled with.

So, if you want to begin filling your life with songs that sing about Jesus but don’t know where to begin, my boyfriend compiled most of the songs we sing at church together with other Christian music.
