I enjoyed doing the activity in one of my classes so I thought of sharing my work with you.
From this given scenario:
“Breaking news: A searchable database of all private messages sent the past 10 years on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tinder, WeChat and many other social platforms has been leaked online. It is being shared, downloaded, re-uploaded and replicated faster than anyone can block or delete it.”
The task is to share what I would do and feel in the first 5 minutes of this future. So within five minutes, this is what what I came up with. And yes, this is a work of fiction.
Here it goes:
I was out at a coffee shop with my friend Alice when she told me, “You would not believe this.” She said that in between a coffee sip and a frantic mobile scroll.
Ping.
I opened the link Alice sent me, and I couldn’t believe what I am seeing. All private messages sent over the past ten years on social media platforms are leaked online.
“This is what you get for using platforms for free,” I thought.
Who is responsible for this? What are their motives?
I wish I have answers right now, but the online chaos seems to drown my own. And that includes political upheavals about the leaked private messages exchanged between our prominent government leaders and leading global energy investors.
As I read other student submissions, I came across one who said that he might check a friend on the database. If you think you’d do the same, what do you think would you find out? And would it be alright if other people did the same to you?
I just wish you did not share passwords and bank details. Else, bad actors will come to play.
