I enjoyed doing the activity in one of my classes so I thought of sharing my work with you.
From this given scenario:
“You suddenly notice that the Internet is out. You have no mobile access or cell phone service. If you check, you notice nothing is broadcasting on TV or radio. Even though the electricity is working, it’s as if all telecommunication has suddenly stopped.”
The task is to share what I would do and feel in the first 5 minutes of this future. So within five minutes, this is what what I came up with. And yes, this is a work of fiction.
Here it goes:
As was my custom, I checked my phone to see if my husband gave me a message instead. It was late in the evening, and I was ready to sleep. Thinking about whether my husband already arrived at the airport, I wonder why I never received any call. Not until I realized that my phone service got disconnected.
I thought it was just a minor problem, so I tried to go near the window, hoping that I’d get a mobile signal. But I didn’t. I tried to check the WiFi too, but it wasn’t working either. So I went downstairs to see what’s up with the news only to see the black and white static, broadcasting nothing.
Yes, I checked all the channels too, but nothing.
What is going on?
I cannot imagine what caused such disconnection: no mobile service, no internet, no TV. Was there a cyberattack taking place? I know how not far-fetched that idea is, with all things going digital.
Is this a national emergency?
How is my husband?
Bothered by the silence and filled with worry, I decided to go out of the house only to find that my neighbors are as alarmed and disoriented as I was.
