The thing about joining a project in the middle of it meant that you didn’t know much about how things worked around before you came. And that also means that you need to have a lot of catching up to do.
Your question might be, “Where should I start?”
And it might be challenging to answer right away, especially when you’re trying to position yourself at work too.
Where do I fit in this?
But you know what, you’ll eventually figure it out.
How?
That’s what I did. I asked questions. And even if I had to repeat myself (thank God my colleagues were patient with me), I did it anyway, to benefit my memory.
Now, three days in, I’m starting to get the hang of things. And perhaps, engaging with the team helps.
Never coy and hide in the corners. Instead, meet people, and ask around, be it their names, interests, and role in the project. I learned that one way to be rooted in the workplace is by getting to know the people you are working with.
If you’re in the same situation, catching up on your workload isn’t as bad as you think. Why? Because people at your office would be willing to help you through that first week if you are just open to learning.
